Composition of STB

No matter the operator or the end user, we only use the STB within the limited service range after purchasing it. For example, the end user bought a well-configured STB only for watching live broadcasts and playing games. It can be clearly seen that the STB hardware part consists of four aspects

1.Control subsystem

A programmable platform composed of CPU, ROM and RAM, which provides the functions of signal access and control processing. This subsystem can be said to be the core component of STB, and other subsystems are provided with drivers by this subsystem, which controls the coordination of all parts, completes signal decryption, descrambling, demultiplexing, and obtains data streams and other packaged data.

2.Digital processing subsystem

This subsystem deals with compressed and encoded audio and video. If users just watch 4K TV or play general games, there is no need to make this system for groups with no special requirements, because Ruogood products all have this function. The working principle is as follows

the compressed and encoded audio data is decoded by an audio decompressor and output to a D/A converter to obtain the audio signal of the TV. The compressed and encoded video data is decoded by the video decompressor, and its output is mixed with the graphics generated by OSD system, and supplied to TV through NTSC/PAL/SECAM encoder.

3.Network interface subsystem

According to different countries and operators, the network has network interface (network interface is divided into 100M network and 1000M network), TV line interface and telephone line interface respectively, and the corresponding interfaces are adopted according to different access networks. Access to the network is to realize duplex communication with the video server.

4.User/public interface and extended interface subsystem

Ruogood standard has interfaces such as HDMI,IR,USB,TF Card, infrared remote controller, etc., and peripherals such as descrambler, smart card, decryption card and game controller can also be added for communication according to user’s needs.

 

Software Structure

The software structure of set-top box has four layers.

1.Hardware driver layer

It controls the initialization and work of each component module, is the infrastructure of software structure, and is located at the bottom of software.

2.Kernel layer

It can be understood as a small operating system added by customers according to their own needs, which completes the creation of processes, the communication between processes, the allocation and management of resources.

3.Command parsing layer

It controls the openness of applications and executes commands issued by users.

4.Application layer

That is, application programs, including but not limited to web browsing, watching network videos, playing videos, video players and so on. The application layer is at the top of the software.

 

Safety requirements

1.Network security Use it within the specified scope according to the national laws, and provide IP information, user information and password as required. Use all kinds of business within the scope authorized by national laws.

2.Digital rights management security It is necessary to have a corresponding version of DRM for business platform in STB to provide content copyright protection.

 

Communication protocol requirements The IP involved in the set-top box has the following protocols

1.Protocols involved in the access process, such as PPPoE, DHCP, IEEE802.1x, etc

2.File/text transfer protocols, such as TFTP, FTP, HTTP, etc;

3.Media transport protocols, such as Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) and transport protocols conforming to relevant regulations, etc;

4.Internet group management protocols, such as IGMP supporting multicast, etc

5.Media playback control protocols, such as real-time streaming RTSP, etc;

6.Management protocols, such as: WAN management protocol TR069 and simple network management protocol SNMPv2, etc;

7.Network time synchronization protocol, network time protocol (NTP) or simple network time protocol (SNTP), etc. PS: IPTV set-top box, as the terminal equipment of IP network access, must support a series of business-related IP.
